Sea Shepherd UK!

Welcome to Sea Shepherd UK! We are fortunate to have a large and active network of volunteers who organise a variety of events and fundraisers every year in support of Sea Shepherds global campaigns. We'll be posting items on this webpage about UK events and protests, how you can volunteer for us, and how you can join in with our onshore support network. Sea Shepherd UK is also working with other sympathetic organisations to help secure support for our global ocean wildlife conservation campaigns. We'll post information on joint events with Bite Back and Marine Connection, plus many other conservation and animal welfare groups.

LUSH and Sea Shepherd Launch Global Anti-Shark-Finning Campaign

Alice Newstead Hung by Actual Shark Hooks in Protest of the Slaughter
Shoppers on Regents Street in central London likely got more than they bargained for. In a dramatic illustration of how sharks are caught and killed for their fins, Alice Newstead, performance artist, voluntarily had her skin pierced with actual de-barbed shark hooks and hung suspended from the ceiling in the window of one of LUSH's busiest shops for all to see.

Spartathlon - Athens to Sparta 155 miles within 36 hours! September 26th
On September 26, 2008, Demetrios (Mitso) Kehayioglou will run 155 miles in order to raise money for Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.
Please donate online in support of Mitsos efforts to create awareness about the plight of the oceans.
Athens to Sparta -155 miles within 36 hours.
The Spartathlon is one of the most difficult international races in the world. Temperatures will soar above 35 degrees celsius as Mitso races over road, trail, and mountain terrain, from sea level to 1,200 metres (3,937 feet), tracing the footsteps of Pheidippides. According to the historian Herodotus, Pheidippides was an Athenian messenger, who was sent in 490 BC from Athens to Sparta to ask for reinforcements against the might of the Persian army. We at Sea Shepherd consider Mitsos run no less than a call for reinforcements in the battle to save our oceans, and we wish him godspeed!

Sea Shepherd UK
Sea Shepherd UK is a registered charity in the United Kingdom [Charity Commission registered number 1110501]. Sea Shepherd UK is growing rapidly and we are looking for onshore volunteers to support our conservation work on the high seas! We need the following kinds of help:
- Fundraising - Organize a fundraiser event or concert at your local pub, restaurant, or community meeting place; have a Sea Shepherd house party (show videos and give a presentation); help sell SSCS merchandise; tell your friends about our work!
- Outreach - Assist in manning an information table (or host your own) at special events, festivals, outdoor markets, and/or shopping malls in your area. Be creative! Think of any place where you can set-up a display table and hand out information.
- Education - Visit schools, universities, clubs, and/or organizations to give presentations on Sea Shepherd.
- Information Distribution - You can help spread the word about our mission by distributing printed brochures, info sheets, and newsletters.
- Administrative and clerical work - You can help with telephone calls, answering mail, data entry, computer consultation, and translation work.
- Networking - Finding contacts to support our vessels to provide services, parts, equipment, moorage, etc...
- Developing a support network for Sea Shepherd in the UK
We look forward to hearing from you! uk@seashepherd.org
